The 288 Group Walk To New York
On the 4th May, 288 Group set off on a tremendous challenge, walking the distance from Poole, Dorset to New York City. A grand total of 6,000 Kilometres were to be travelled across the Atlantic, with the aim to show our support and raise £5,000 for the incredible NHS.
Employees were required to travel, by foot alone, and virtually track the distance covered using the Strava App whilst following the COVID-19 guidelines. The total distance travelled each day was accumulated and daily updates were shared to update 288 Group employees of their progress.
288 Group generously sponsored all employees 50p per Kilometre walked and matched all donations that were made by family and friends on the company JustGiving page. Within days of the challenge beginning we had received donations of over £1,000 and were virtually tracking our travels across the ocean towards USA.
The challenge was a really great way for employees to stay in touch socially, given the government restrictions and lack of places to visit, a daily walk was more exciting than ever. Employees daily posts were uploaded to Strava to share with colleagues the distance covered, routes taken, views enjoyed and even a few injuries gained along the way.
After 5 weeks and 1226 Strava activity posts 288 Group finally crossed the virtual finish line in Time Square, New York bringing our challenge to the end.
We are pleased to say the Walk to New York challenge raised a total of £5,010, the money raised has been donated to the wonderful NHS Charities Together to support its staff, volunteers and patients.
