ICT at 288 Group
Our ICT department sits at the centre of our business, providing us with the opportunity to create the bespoke and innovative solutions that provides 288 Group with our competitive advantage.
Systems Transformation
Our systems transformation team is working at the bleeding edge in a programme to move our Collectables Division away from legacy monolith systems towards a new suite of applications. The result will be an integrated, scalable and highly available cloud-native, microservices architecture centred around loosely coupled independent components.
We primarily use Microsoft stack with Azure DevOps for project management and continuous integration and delivery of applications. All our code is deployed using Infrastructure as Code (IAC) YAML pipelines built by the developers. We are passionate about quality and security of our applications and use automated tools (such as SonarCloud and Snyk) to monitor all applications. Based on Agile and continuous improvement principles, we aim to deliver excellence to the business meeting the demands of a competitive e-commerce landscape.
Web Development and Legacy Business Software
Our legacy software teams continue to develop and support our existing systems across both offline and online activity, supporting almost 2,000,000 individual order/booking transactions and 18 million annual online sessions.
Predominately working within a C# environment, our systems provide a modern seamless customer experience whilst integrating with a core COBOL-based business system that has sustained over 30 years of development.
ICT Infrastructure
Our Infrastructure team supports both development teams ensuring both high-availability and security across both cloud and on-prem servers, as well as supporting our 200+ employee user base with their hardware and software requirements.
One of our more experienced developers recently said:
“What sets us apart from other companies is the fact that, no matter what your role is here, if you bring forth your ideas, they are heard. In fact, you are encouraged to challenge, contradict and convince people. I love it. People are approachable, friendly and encourage an atmosphere of mutual cooperation.”
The diversity of the code and the colleagues you work with, the breadth of knowledge required, and the flexing of every skill of a software engineer ensures you are always challenged and learning all the time.”
Focused on Continuous Improvement
Led by innovation within our systems transformation team, we are moving to follow the agile manifesto but generally regard ourselves as framework agnostic. In our current teams, we use Kanban boards to visualize our workflow but use sprints to organize our backlog. We are always training, innovating and informing ourselves of new and better ways of working. We believe in failing fast, incorporating lessons learnt and maintaining high efficiency and throughput.
